5 years ago (2002): Bloomington High School had three teams finish in the top five en route to winning the 10-school Normal Community Scramble at Ironwood Golf Course. Brandon Holtz and Joe Rieger had the low score of 64, one stroke better than teammates Nick Bova and Zach Jecklin.
15 years ago (1992): Brad Faxon waited out a cliff-hanging victory in the International golf tournament at Castle Rock, Colo., and watched several challengers including D.A. Weibring miss chances to catch up over the closing holes. Weibering, an Illinois State University graduate, took third and won $69,900.
25 years ago (1982): Stanley Banks of Dwight guided Bid To Fame to a stakes record as the Illinois State Fair's annual harness racing meeting came to a close.
50 years ago (1957): Russell S. Proctor pounded out 15 hits to edge the last place Merchants, 9-8, and wrap up the Municipal League baseball title in the season's final game at McCormick Field.
