5 years ago (2001): Faced with a fourth and 12 situation at the Lexington 33-yard line, Eric Bird of the Minutemen ran 22 yards on a fake punt to keep what turned out to be Lexington's winning touchdown drive alive in a 20-14 victory over Tremont.
15 years ago (1991): Illinois Wesleyan erased the frustration of nine straight losses to Millikin with a dramatic 27-24 victory over the Big Blue. Quarterback Tom Monken brought the Titans from behind with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Chris Bisaillon on fourth-and-five with 3:35 remaining.
25 years ago (1981): Doug Collins, whose eight-year National Basketball Association career ended with a knee injury last month, is the new director of public relations and community relations for the Philadelphia 76ers. The former Illinois State guard will provide color commentary for home-game radio broadcasts.
50 years ago (1956): Bloomington got enough service out of much-injured Larry Spahn to run up a three-touchdown lead and held on to defeat Lincoln, 20-13. The Raiders looked like world-beaters with Spahn in the lineup but the roof fell in when the senior quarterback re-injured an ankle in the second quarter and had to leave the game.
