SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- Darren Seferina and Chris Chinea connected on back-to-back homers in the second inning to help lead the Springfield Cardinals to a 7-5 victory over Frisco RoughRiders on Tuesday. The Cardinals swept the three-game series with the win.
The home runs were both solo shots and gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
The Cardinals later added a run in the fifth and four in the seventh. In the fifth, Lane Thomas hit an RBI single, while Thomas hit a two-run home run and John Nogowski hit a solo home run in the seventh.
Frisco saw its comeback attempt come up short after Michael O'Neill hit an RBI single, scoring Chuck Moorman in the eighth inning to cut the Springfield lead to 7-5.
Frisco missed an additional scoring opportunity in the eighth, when Jose Trevino hit into a forceout with the bases loaded to end the inning.
Chinea homered and singled in the win. Thomas homered and singled, driving home three runs.
Landon Beck (1-0) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while James Dykstra (0-2) took the loss in the Texas League game. Chris Ellis pitched two scoreless innings for his second save of the season.
Michael De Leon singled three times, scoring two runs for the RoughRiders. O'Neill singled twice, driving in a run and also scoring one.
With the win, Springfield improved to 4-2 against Frisco this season.
