BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) -- Josh Morgan hit a solo home run in the first inning, leading the Down East Wood Ducks to a 9-3 win over the Buies Creek Astros on Saturday.

The home run by Morgan gave the Wood Ducks a 1-0 lead.

With the score tied 1-1 in the third, the Wood Ducks took the lead for good when Chuck Moorman hit a solo home run.

Down East right-hander Emerson Martinez (3-8) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing three runs on seven hits over 7 2/3 innings. Opposing starter Ryan Hartman (2-4) took the loss in the Carolina League game after giving up three runs and five hits over five innings.

Stephen Wrenn singled three times, also stealing a base for the Astros.
