The Illinois State baseball team dropped two games to host Dallas Baptist by scores of 7-6 and 11-4 on Friday.

The Redbirds fell to 7-17 overall and 0-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference while Dallas Baptist improved to 17-9 and 2-0.

In the first game, ISU's Noah Sadler had a solo home run in the second inning. He also had a double among four hits to drive in three runs.

Joe Aeilts also had four of ISU's 12 hits including a double while Joe Butler had three hits. Aeilts, Butler and Jordan Libman each drove in one run.

The third of five ISU pitchers, Mitch Vogrin (3-2) took the loss after allowing three earned runs and two hits in one inning of work.

In the nightcap, Owen Miller stroked a home run in the fifth with Bryce Grimm on board to give ISU a 4-2 lead. Grimm had reached on a single.

The Redbirds also received doubles from John Rave, Collin Braithwaite and Aeilts. 

McClain breaks record: ISU's Amanda McClain won the long jump in the Eastern Illinois Big Blue Classic at Charleston with a meet record leap of 19 feet, 8¼ inches. Teammate Brandy Thomas won the shot put at 47-5¼.


Goodman wins twice: IWU's Karly Goodman won twice in the Washington (Mo.) Invitational track meet, throwing the hammer 150-11 and the javelin 120-8. Teammate Isabella Schneider took second in the pole vault (11-3¾).


Millikin honors West grad Weber: The Millikin women’s basketball team recently announced its award winners and among them was senior Rachael Weber, a Normal West High School graduate. The Millikin coaches presented Weber with the team’s Synergy Award, Big Blue Award and Heart and Soul Award.
