Illinois State senior runner Paul Steeno and Missouri State senior baseball player Alex Jefferson, a Normal West High School graduate, were among four student-athletes named as Missouri Valley Conference postgraduate scholarship winners, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced Friday.

Each will receive a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship from the conference. They were joined by Elena Danielson of Bradley (women's cross country) and Kimberly Nebo of Southern Illinois (women's basketball).

Steeno has a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average while majoring in journalism and competing on the cross country and track & field teams for ISU. He made the league's Academic Honor Roll in each of his four seasons, was a three-time Commissioner's Academic Excellence honoree and earned the MVC's President's Council Academic Excellence Award this spring.

Steeno has been admitted to the DePaul University master’s degree program in journalism.

Jefferson is a starting outfielder for a Missouri State team that won the MVC regular-season title and plays this weekend in the NCAA Super Regional against Texas Christian.

The accounting major has a 3.97 GPA and earned the MVC's Good Neighbor Award. He is a three-time MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award winner.
