NORMAL -- Illinois State's basketball team will travel to face Western Michigan on Feb. 19 in the BracketBusters series at Read Fieldhouse in Kalamazoo, Mich., it was announced Monday night.
Western Michigan has an 11-9 overall record and is in second place in the Mid-American Conference's West Division with a 4-3 mark. Game time will be announced later.
The Broncos hold a 4-2 advantage in the series against ISU. Western Michigan earned a 65-57 victory in the last game between the schools on Dec. 16, 2006, in Kalamazoo. That was during Porter Moser's final season as ISU coach.
Western Michigan will return the game in November or December at Redbird Arena. That will serve as a homecoming for Central Catholic High School's Hayden Hoerdemann, who will be a freshman next season for the Broncos.
Carmichael takes Valley honor: ISU sophomore forward Jackie Carmichael earned his first Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week award, it was announced Monday by the Valley office.
Carmichael led ISU to overtime victories over Bradley and Drake. Despite coming off the bench, the 6-foot-9 Carmichael averaged 17 points, 14 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots. He recorded career highs of 24 points and 17 rebounds against Bradley.
Travel plans altered: ISU (11-11, 3-8 Valley) has changed its travel plans to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for Wednesday's game against Northern Iowa (17-6, 8-3) because of a possible blizzard that is bearing down on Central Illinois.
The Redbirds will leave by charter bus at 8 a.m. Tuesday, said ISU associate athletic director/media relations Todd Kober. ISU was supposed to take a charter flight after practice this afternoon.
ISU will attempt to fly back to Normal after the game, weather permitting.
