Illinois State senior guard Tyler Brown is in the “Final Four” of the State Farm Dark Horse Dunker Competition after edging “Elite 8” competitor Ra’Shad James of Northwood on Monday.

Fans must now cast their daily votes to help Brown win his way into the contest’s championship round. Voting ends at noon CST on March 11.

Fans are allowed to vote once per day by visiting facebook.com/CollegeSlam.

The winner of the contest will participate in the Denny’s Slam Dunk Competition at the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships in Atlanta, Ga., on April 4 at 6 p.m. CST on ESPN.

Brown now goes up against Stephen F. Austin’s Hal Bateman. Brown and the Redbirds face Northern Iowa at 8:35 p.m. Friday in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinals at St. Louis.

ILLINOIS

Illini’s GodBold, Penn honored: Illinois senior guard Adrienne GodBold was voted the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year by conference women’s basketball coaches. Also, Illini senior forward Karisma Penn was named a first-team All-Big Ten selection by media. Both players were second-team all-Big Ten honorees by the coaches.

GodBold was named to the all-Defensive Team for the second straight year. She is tied for second in the league with 3.4 steals per game in addition to averaging 17.3 points and 7.1 rebounds.

Penn ranks fourth in the Big Ten in scoring (19.4 ppg), second in rebounding (9.9 rpg) and steals (2.9 spg), third in blocked shots (2.2 bpg) and fifth in field-goal percentage (.511)/

HEARTLAND

Baseball home opener nixed: The Heartland baseball team’s home opening doubleheader against the College of DuPage scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed until 3 p.m. on April 3.

The Hawks are slated to face Triton in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at The Corn Crib.

ELSEWHERE

Composto makes nationals: University High School graduate Elizabeth Composto, a sophomore at North Central, will compete this weekend in the NCAA Division III Indoor National Meet at Naperville.

Composto ranks fifth among pole vault qualifiers with a personal-best clearance of 12 feet, 6 1/4 inches. She seeks All-America honors for the second straight season, having placed eighth last year.
