Led by a 4-under 67 from junior Drew Pershing, Illinois Wesleyan's men's golf team moved from fifth to second place after day two of the 18-team NCAA Division III Fall Preview on Monday at Raven Golf Course in Sandestin, Fla.

IWU shot 283 and is at 3-over 571, nine strokes behind St. Thomas (Minn.).

Titan senior Conner O'Neil shot 73 and is at 140, good for seventh place heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes. IWU sophomore Jonathan Nocek is at 141 (70-71) and tied for eighth, while Pershing is at 147 (80-67) and tied for 37th. Leader Sam Hill of Texas-Tyler has a 135 total.

Women's golf seventh: The IWU women's golf team climbed one spot to seventh after day two of the 16-team NCAA Division III Fall Preview at the Baytowne Golf Club in Sandestin, Fla.

IWU shot 318 and has a 645 total. Leader Washington (Mo.) is at 611.

Titan junior Jordan Koehler shot an even-par 72, tied with Bridgewater's Christina Herbert for the lowest score of the day among the 79 players. Koehler is tied for 10th with a 156 total. IWU sophomore Rylie Loux is tied for 21st at (82-78) and junior Olivia Ruff is tied for 39th at 164 (80-84) heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes.


Men's golf in fifth: The ISU men's golf team is fifth after the opening 36 holes of the 11-team Dayton Flyer Inviational at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio. ISU shot identical rounds of 291 for a 582 total. Leader Miami (Ohio) is at 569.

Redbird junior Trent Wallace is tied for eighth place with a 3-over total of 145 (73-72). David Rauer (73-73) and Zach Burry (71-75) are tied for 13th at 146 heading in to Tuesday's final 18 holes.

Women's golf tied for seventh: The ISU women's golf team is tied for seventh after the opening 36 holes of the 11-team Missouri Valley Conference Fall Preview at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kan. ISU shot rounds of 318-306 for a 624 total. Leader Wichita State is at 598.

Senior Kiley Walsh is tied for 13th place with a 8-over total of 152 (80-72). Tatum King (79-76) is tied for 20th place at 155 heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes.


Area pair honored at Monmouth: Monmouth College’s Kyle Schultz of Heyworth and Yansay Williams of Normal West have been honored for their play in a 59-14 Midwest Conference South Division win over Illinois College.

Schultz, a senior linebacker, was named the MWC Defensive Performer of the Week. He had his first two interceptions of the season and totaled a team-high 10 tackles (four solos). Williams was the league’s Special Teams Performer of the Week. The junior wide receiver blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown, then later caught a touchdown pass.

Egbers nets league award: Central Catholic graduate Tom Egbers, a freshman golfer at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week on Monday.

Egbers shot a two-day total of 155 (79, 76) at the Nazareth Fall Invitational to tie for a season-best second place and lead St. Lawrence to the team title. It was Egbers' second Liberty League Rookie of the Week award this season.
