Senior Conner O'Neil is tied for first place and the Illinois Wesleyan men's golf team is in fifth after Sunday's opening round of the 18-team NCAA Division III Fall Preview in Sandestin, Fla.
O'Neil fired a 4-under par 67 with eight birdies, four bogeys and six pars on the par 71, 6,568-yard Raven Golf Course layout. He is tied atop the individual leaderboard with Pete Sienko of St. Thomas University (Minn.) heading into Monday's second round.
The Titans posted a team score of 4-over 288 with Jonathan Nocek tied for 10th place at 70. Normal Community product Rob Wuethrich is tied for 30th after a 73. Concorida University (Texas) leads the team competition at 280.
The 54-hole event concludes Tuesday.
Women's golf in eighth: The IWU women's team is in eighth place after the first round of the 16-team NCAA Division III Fall Preview at the Baytowne Golf Club in Sandestin, Fla.
The Titans carded a 39-over par 327, led by Olivia Ruff, who is tied for 19th after an opening-round 8-over par 80.
Washington University holds a seven-shot lead over Huntingdon after a first-round 304 with the Bears' Samantha Haubenstock and Chloe DiPetrillo leading the medal chase at 2-over 74.
Play continues in the 54-hole event with 18 holes on both Monday and Tuesday.
Football ranking unchanged: Despite a 30-0 Homecoming shutout of Carroll on Saturday, the IWU football team remained at No. 11 in the D3football.com Top 25 poll released Sunday.
Fellow CCIW member North Central remains at No. 4 as the top five is unchanged from the previous week.
