Heartland Community College sophomore pitcher Drew Sabol has committed to play baseball at the University of Illinois-Springfield next year.

Sabol, a former Streator High School star, is the 11th Hawk to sign with a four-year school from this year’s Heartland sophomore class.

Sabol helped the Hawks finish third this week in the NJCAA Division II World Series in Enid, Okla.

All-tourney team: Heartland pitcher Jeremy Stawychny and shortstop Cody Bobbit were named to the all-tournament team for their performances in the NJCAA Division II World Series.

Fisher’s Paris to EIU: Kristen Paris of Fisher has accepted a scholarship offer for track and field from Eastern Illinois. Paris is a three-time Class 1A state medalist, including third in the 800-meter run and fourth in the 1,600 this year.

Area trio to ICC: Taylor Sauder of Roanoke-Benson and Eureka graduates Kelsey Young and Shelby Kupferschmid have signed letters of intent for volleyball with Illinois Central College.

Cravatta choose NIU: Pantagraph All-Area guard J.J. Cravatta of Streator will join the Northern Illinois basketball program as a recruited walk-on. Cravatta was a second-team AP Class 3A all-stater as a senior. His 1,960 career points are a school record and his 779 this season were seventh-most in IHSA history.
