Emily Dickman scored two goals to propel the Illinois State soccer team to a 4-1 nonconference victory over Illinois-Chicago at Adelaide Street Field on Wednesday.
The Redbirds improved to 6-5-2 as Kelli Zickert and Mikayla Unger contributed one goal and one assist each.
Award nominees: Nominees for Illinois State's 2016-17 Jill Hutchison Female Athlete of the Year and Milt Weisbecker Male Athlete of the Year awards were announced Wednesday.
The winners will be named at The Reggies, the annual academic excellence awards ceremony, on Oct. 15.
Nominees for the Jill Hutchison Female Athlete of the Year Award are Gabrielle Cooke (gymnastics), Jordan de los Reyes (softball), Jaelyn Keene (volleyball), Lauren Koehl (soccer), Amanda McClain (track and field), Rachel Root (swimming and diving) and Kiley Walsh (golf).
Nominees for the Milt Weisbecker Male Athlete of the Year Award are Davontae Harris (football), Paris Lee (basketball), Owen Miller (baseball), Derrius Rodgers (track and field) and Trent Wallace (golf).
Basketball games on CBS Sports Network: Illinois State's men's basketball team will appear at least twice on the CBS Sports Network as part of its Missouri Valley Conference packate.
ISU's Jan. 13 game at Southern Illinois and its Feb. 8 home game against the Salukis will be on CBS Sports Network. The Redbirds also could be chosen for selected wild card games to be announced later.
Volleyball eyes home matches: The ISU volleyball team returns to Redbird Arena to face Loyola on Friday and Valparaiso on Saturday in Missouri Valley matches. Both start at 7 p.m.
ISU is 9-9 overall and 2-3 the league. Saturday’s match will be “Pack the Arena” match, which features free admission for all fans, $1 hot dogs and post-match autographs.
Loyola is 1-14, 0-4, and Valparaiso is 8-8, 1-3.
Women's tennis to host MVC tourney: The ISU women’s tennis team will be hosting the Missouri Valley Individual Championships this weekend. Play will be at ISU's Gregory Street Tennis Courts, weather permitting, or the Bloomington Tennis Center.
The tournament features six singles flights and three doubles flights. Play begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Volleyball handles Carroll: The 13th-ranked IWU volleyball team downed Carroll, 25-20, 25-18, 25-11, in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play at Waukesha, Wis.
Tyler Brown recorded a team-high 14 kills for the Titans (13-4, 3-0 in the CCIW). Kyleigh Block had 14 digs and two aces, while Caitlin Meyer provided 20 assists.
Men's soccer falls: Two goals from Marrion Alvaro carried North Park to a 4-0 victory over Wesleyan at Chicago.
