Illinois Wesleyan was selected to win the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women’s basketball title in a preseason coaches poll announced Wednesday.
The Titans (18-10, 12-4) had 61 points and five first-place votes after placing second in the CCIW last season and earning an NCAA Division III at-large bid.
Three-time defending champion Wheaton (24-5, 14-2) was second in the poll with 60 points and four first-place votes. The Thunder advanced to the NCAA Division III regional final last year.
Carthage (14-11, 8-8) was third with 45 points, followed by Elmhurst (19-7, 11-5), Augustana (17-9, 10-6), North Central (14-11, 8-8), Millikin (10-15, 4-12), North Park (11-14, 4-12) and Carroll (1-23, 1-15).
Men's basketball picked fourth: Augustana was picked to win the CCIW men’s basketball title in the preseason coaches poll, while IWU was voted fourth.
Augustana (24-9, 11-5) had 63 points and seven first-place votes after advancing to the NCAA Division III national title game for the second time in three seasons.
North Central (18-11, 9-7) finished second in the poll with 56 points and one first-place vote. Carthage (18-8, 11-5) was third with 47 points and one first-place vote, followed by IWU (17-8, 9-7) in fourth with 42 points.
Wheaton (12-13, 8-8) was fifth with 38 points, followed by North Park (18-8, 11-5), Carroll (13-12, 8-8), Elmhurst (8-17, 4-12) and Millikin (3-22, 1-15).
Soccer blanks Augustana: The IWU men's soccer team scored twice in the second half to topple Augustana, 2-0, in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play at Bloomington.
Patrick Hickey was credited with a goal and an assist for the Titans (10-5-1, 5-2 in the CCIW). Keagan James scored the other goal while Josh Essary added an assist.
Titan goalkeeper Alex Ruckstaetter had six saves.
Wallace earns MVC award: Illinois State junior Trent Wallace has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week after winning the Little Rock Invitational by two strokes.
Wallace carded rounds of 71, 68, and 71 on the par-72 course for a six-under 210. He led ISU to second place in the tourney. His 72.39 season average is fourth-best in the Missouri Valley.
Reasnover on D3football.com team: Eureka College junior running back LeAnthony Reasnover has been selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week. Reasnover had a career-high 274 rushing yards in Saturday's victory at MacMurray. He is the first Red Devil to be named to the website's weekly honor roll since 2012.
Reasnover also was named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. He became the second 3,000-yard rusher in the modern era of Eureka football on Saturday. He has 3,201 career rushing yards and needs 104 to break Derrick Harris' Eureka record of 3,304 yards set between 1991 and 1993.
Reasnover and the Red Devils play their final home game of the season Saturday at noon against St. Scholastica.
