Jaelyn Keene had a career-high 30 kills Friday night to help Illinois State's volleyball team rally from behind to earn a five-set win over Southern Illinois at Carbondale.

The Redbirds won 25-18, 24-26, 22-25, 25-11, 15-13 to extend their season-best win streak to five matches.

Keene's 30 kills came with just three errors for a .509 hitting percentage. She also had five blocks and two aces to set a career high with 34.5 points.

Stef Jankiewicz dished out 56 assists to go with 18 digs. Sydney Holt added 10 kills and Courtney Pence led the Redbirds with 20 digs.

ISU improved to 14-9 and 7-3 in the MVC. Southern Illinois fell to 4-16, 3-6.

“It was a great team effort tonight. I’m so proud of how composed the team was in tight moments,” said Illinois State head coach Leah Johnson. “We displayed great trust and chemistry.”

Men win Illini Open; women 3rd: The ISU men's cross country team won the Illini Open 8K race by 30 points, while the women placed third in the five-team meet in Champaign.

All five Redbird men placed among the top 20 individuals, led by freshman Jack Anstey in seventh overall with a time of 26 minutes, 17.6 seconds. ISU totaled 19 points to outdistance Butler.

Sydney Billingsley finished first for the Redbirds in the women's 5K, placing seventh in 18:55.2. ISU totaled 59 points to finish behind Purdue (28) and Bradley (47).

Boers advances to quarters: ISU's Andreas Boers advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Boers posted a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Luis Heredia Gomez of Marquette. He will face Alex Kim of Michigan State on Saturday, while teammate Igor Kolaric remains alive in his singles draw.

The Redbirds lost twice in doubles play as Boers and Egehan Sertkaya fell to Ohio State's Matt Mendez and Hunter Tubert (8-3) while Kolaric and Christoffer Greve lost to Western Michigan's Eric Olivarez and Nick Schnobel (8-2).

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN

Volleyball victorious: No. 18-ranked Illinois Wesleyan rallied to defeat No. 22 Texas-Dallas, 20-25, 30-28, 21-25, 25-21, 17-15, at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Tournament.

Senior Kyleigh Block led IWU (16-6) with 18 kills with juniors Tyler Brown (16) and Rachel Burkman (14) and senior Anne Cummings (11) contributing double-digit kills totals.

Brown had a team-high 20 defensive digs with freshman Caitlin Meyer getting 12 and Block had 10 along with four total blocks. Junior Maddie Williams also had four total blocks and junior Heidi Dague had three. Sophomore Kira Jackson had 35 assists and Meyer provided 27. 

The Titans face No. 7 Wisconsin-Whitewater and Wisconsin-Eau Claire in tournament action on Saturday.

Tennis in seventh: The IWU women's tennis team was in seventh place (of nine) after day two of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships at Hanover Park.

The Titans had six points while two-time defending champion Augustana leads with 54 heading into Saturday's final day of competition. Wheaton is in second with 51.

Sophomore Lauren Neitzel is IWU's only remaining player. She will North Central's Diana Barcelata for third place Saturday.
