Juma Armando had a match-high 22 kills for Illinois State but Missouri State maintained its perfect Missouri Valley Conference record with a 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18 victory at Springfield, Mo.
Jaelyn Keene and Ella Francis added 12 kills apiece for the Redbirds, who fell to 14-10 overall and 7-4 in conference play while Missouri State moved to 18-5, 10-0. ISU's Stef Jankiewicz had 46 assists and 20 digs while Courtney Pence had 34 digs.
Lily Johnson led the Bears with 18 kills to go along with 27 digs. Daniele Messa had 27 assists and Emily Butters had 35 digs.
Volleyball wins two: The IWU volleyball team closed out the UW-Oshkosh Women's Volleyball Invitational with wins over Wisconsin-Whitewater and Wisconson-Eau Claire.
Led by Tyler Brown's 15 kills, the No. 18 nationally-ranked Titans upended No. 7 UW-Whitewater 25-21, 25-18, 24-26, 26-24. Kira Jackson had 31 assists in the victory with Rachel Burkman contributing 21 digs.
IWU (18-6) closed out the tourney with a 25-19, 25-21, 27-25 win over UW-Eau Claire. Brown had 12 kills and 15 digs with Jackson distributing 25 assists.
Brown and junior middle hitter Maddie Williams were named to the all-tournament team.
Women's soccer clips Carthage: Ellie Crabtree and Jordan Ellerbrock netted goals to give IWU a 2-0 women's soccer victory over Carthage in CCIW play at Neis Field.
Crabtree scored on a free kick in the first half and Ellerbrock converted an assist from Cameron Hindel in the second half. Kelli McCarthy had five saves for the Titans (13-3, 5-1).
Men's soccer falls: Doug Ballard netted a goal early in the second half, but Carthage was able to hold off the IWU men's soccer team, 2-1, at Neis Field.
Ballard's score came with an assist from Tom Nie and Patrick Hickey after Carthage had taken a 2-0 halftime lead.
Neitzel 4th in CCIW: Sophomore Lauren Neitzel finished fourth in No. 1 singles and the IWU women's tennis team ended seventh among nine teams in the CCIW championships at Hanover Park.
