O'Neil picked for golf tourney: Illinois Wesleyan senior Conner O'Neil has become the first player from the school selected to play in the Patriot All-America Invitational golf event Dec. 29-31 at the Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
A field of 80 elite collegiate golfers have been chosen for the 54-hole, stroke-play competition. In cooperation with the Folds of Honor Foundation, each golfer represents a fallen soldier by carrying a golf bag with the name and branch of service of a fallen or injured military member.
O'Neil will be playing for Air Force Master Sergeant Thomas A. Crowell, an 18-year service veteran who was killed on Nov. 1, 2007 when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device near Balad Air Base, Iraq.
Following the tournament, the golf bags will be shipped to players' schools and auctioned with all proceeds benefiting the Folds of Honor Foundation.
