NORMAL — The Illinois State football team continued to rise in both major FCS national rankings Monday.
The 2-0 Redbirds moved up four rungs to No. 14 in the STATS poll and were up two spots to No. 12 in the FCS Coaches poll.
While James Madison continues to head both lists, the Missouri Valley Football Conference has seven teams as part of the FCS Coaches rankings with North Dakota State second, South Dakota State fourth, Youngstown State fifth, South Dakota up nine spots to No. 14, Western Illinois 21st and Northern Iowa 24th.
According to STATS, North Dakota State is No. 2, South Dakota State No. 4, Youngstown State No. 6, South Dakota moving up 10 places to No. 13 and Western Illinois No. 23.
Illinois State is coming off a 44-13 win at Eastern Illinois in the Mid-America Classic.
The Redbirds open MVFC play on Saturday with a 2 p.m. game against Missouri State at Springfield, Mo.
