Senior catcher Elizabeth Kay was named the Most Valuable Player and Best Offensive Player on Illinois State’s softball team in a vote of the players.
Kay, who was the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, led the league with a .428 batting average, .538 on-base percentage and 44 RBI.
Senior centerfielder Lauren Kellar from Colfax earned the Best Defensive Player award, making two errors while leading outfielders with six assists. Senior Shelby Music was Most Improved, recording 25 RBI after entering the season with seven in her career.
Freshman pitcher Regan Romshek, a GCMS High School product, was voted Newcomer of the Year. She went 10-9 with a 3.69 ERA and batted .250 with a homer and six RBI.
The senior class of Jhavon Hamilton, Kay, Kellar and Music was chosen by the coaches to receive the Redbird Award, which recognizes dedication, loyalty, perseverance and commitment to the program and university.
Captains for next season will be Taylor Baxter, Laura Canopy, Nichelle Harrison and Stephanie Gallant. All will be seniors but Gallant, a junior.
