GREEN BAY, Wis. — Despite 13 kills from Juma Armando and 11 from Jaelyn Keene, Illinois State lost to Green Bay, 25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 26-24, in the second round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship on Friday.

The Redbirds ended the season at 22-13 while the Phoenix advanced with a 17-15 mark to face the winner between TCU and North Texas.

Green Bay won despite behind outhit by its guest, .295 to .233. The Phoenix had four players with double-digit kills in Jessica Wolf (15), Lydia DeWeese (14), Taylor Wolf (13) and Roberta Todd (10).

"It felt like we waited too long to show up," said ISU coach Leah Johnson. "We gave them so much confidence early in the match. But we came out in sets three and four and had a lot of control and played well and I liked how we responded."

The Redbirds opened a commanding lead in their victorious third set before holding off the Phoenix.

Green Bay grabbed a 5-1 lead in the fourth set, but ISU rallied and held a 19-15 lead when the Phoenix mounted a late-game comeback. Green Bay tied the set at 22-22 and got set point at 24-23. An ISU point tied it once more at 24-24 before the Phoenix recorded back-to-back kills to seal the win.

Courtney Pence had 20 of ISU's 59 digs while teammate Stef Jankiewicz had 50 assists.
