Illinois State has scheduled a Redbird Rally on Friday prior to ISU's game in the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Basketball Tournament at Moline. The sixth-seeded Redbirds meet No. 3 seed Northern Iowa at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the TaxSlayer Center.
The Redbird Rally will begin at 6:30 p.m. at The Union at 525, a local bar/restaurant in downtown Moline. The event is free and open to the public. Complimentary food and drinks will be served.
The Union at 525 is located at 525 14th Street in Moline and will be the official hangout for the Redbirds throughout the weekend. The program will include ISU President Larry Dietz, Director of Athletics Larry Lyons, assistant coach Scott Gillespie, Reggie Redbird and performances by the Redbird band and cheerleading team.
Men's lacrosse wins: Six goals from James Maibuecher and five from Alex Doorenbos powered IWU (3-1) to a 20-15 lacrosse victory over visiting John Carroll (2-1).
The Titans also got three goals from Bailey Marth and two apiece from Will Rossi and Patrick Murphy. J.C. Grabarek and Joe Hynes also scored.
IWU keeper Benigno Houser had six saves.
Berghoff nets softball honor: IWU's Sam Berghoff and Millikin’s Gracie Brookens were selected as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Softball Players of the Week on Tuesday.
Berghoff, a sophomore shortstop from Chicago Whitney Young High School, batted .600 (12-for-20) with 12 runs, two doubles, two triples, three home runs and 12 RBIs as the Titans finished 3-3 at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Leadoff Classic March 2-4. She had multiple hits in five games.
Cheng eyes swim nationals: IWU junior Lisa Cheng will swim in three events in the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on March 21-24 at Indianapolis.
Cheng qualified with the 16th best time of 23.58 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and also will compete in the 100 and 200 freestyle. She has the 33rd best time in the 100 free (51.99 seconds) and 34th in the 200 free (1:53.21).
