EVANSVILLE -- Allie Newsom provided the game-winning goal on an assist form Kristin Cooley in the 76th minute Saturday night as the Illinois State soccer team defeated Evansville, 3-2, in a Missouri Valley Conference match at Evansville.

Jessica Carlson gave the Redbirds an early lead with a goal in the 32nd minute on an assist from Cooley before the Purple Aces scored on the ensuing kickoff.

The Redbirds regained the lead on a goal by senior Alyssa Schulz in the 56th minute on assists from Carlson and Rachel Bostick. Evansville tied it prior to Newsom's first collegiate goal.

The Redbirds (6-6-1, 2-1-1) had a 21-7 shot advantage. Carlson led all players with five shots and Bostick had three.
