EDWARDSVILLE -- Freshman Kyla Cross scored to give the Redbirds a 1-0 halftime advantage and the Illinois State soccer team held on for a 2-1 win at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in its final nonconference game of the season Wednesday at Korte Stadium.

Cross scored her first collegiate goal in the 22nd minute on an assist from Jessica Carlson to give the Redbirds an early 1-0 lead.

Sophomore Rachel Bostick increased the ISU lead to 2-0, heading in a corner kick service from Carlson in the 58th minute. SIU-E scored in the 79th minute to prevent the shutout.

Sophomore goalkeeper Mara Kremenovic made seven saves for the Redbirds (7-6-1).

"It was nice to get out of here with a win and with everyone healthy," ISU coach Drew Roff said. "It was a very physical game. This time of year, you aren't throwing a whole lot of new concepts in, you're just trying to play your best soccer."
