OMAHA, Neb. — Two Illinois State juniors — midfielder Jessica Carlson and defender Natalie McCabe — were selected to the first team all-Missouri Valley Conference women’s soccer squad announced Thursday.
Redbird senior forward Alyssa Schulz was named to the second team, while midfielders Allie Newsom and Anna Stinson were selected to the All-Freshman Team in addition to earning all-Valley honorable mention nods.
It was the second straight season that Carlson was named to the first team. She leads ISU with six goals, five assists and 17 points and ranks second in school history with 21 goals, 12 assists and 54 points.
McCabe has been the leader in the ISU backfield as the defense has recorded four shutouts and posted a 1.20 goals-against average.
Defending champion and third-seeded ISU (9-7-1) takes on No. 2 Missouri State (10-5-2) in a 3:30 p.m. semifinal match today in the Valley Tournament at Morrison Stadium in Omaha. The other semifinal at 6 p.m. pits No. 1 Creighton (13-3-2) against No. 5 Evansville (6-11-1).
The semifinal winners meet in Sunday’s 2 p.m. final with the champion earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
