5 years ago (2001) Denny Matthews (1960), Robert Scott ('51), John Lenahan ('73), Thomas O'Rourke ('73) and Robert Brady ('86) will be inducted into the Central Catholic High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Aug. 24.

15 years ago (1991): The Bloomington Hearts scored six second-inning runs to support Bob Ginger's two-hitter for an 8-0 win over Villa Grove in the opening round of the ASA State Tournament at O'Neil Park. Meanwhile, Rhys Pettett threw a shutout and homered as the Bloomington Beer Nuts blanked Champaign-Urbana Merchants, 10-0.

25 years ago (1981) Mike Wysowski, a former Illinois State University golfer who works at the Highland Park pro shop, shot a six-under-par 64 at the municipal course to take a one-stroke lead over Frank Niepagen and a two-shot margin over Tom Mortimer in the first round of the Bloomington-Normal Medal Play Championship.

50 years ago (1956) Merchants pitcher Wayne Patkunas, who held Municipal League leading American Legion to just three hits last week but was beaten in a tight game, packaged a 6-3 success over the leaders last night and made monkeys of Ora Byerly's boys who now have to share the lead with the Moose.
