Reigning Class 1A state champion Parker Thompson placed third in 14:54 for 2.9 miles despite a leg injury in the 33-team Amboy Invitational to pace No. 12-state ranked Tremont to third with 170 points. No. 3 Westmont won with 151 followed by No. 1 Winnebago with 168.

Girls cross country

Eureka 3rd at Amboy: No. 15-state ranked Eureka scored 152 points to place third and upset five higher ranked teams in the 36th annual Amboy Invitational. No. 1 Winnebago won with 62 followed by No. 4 Elmwood with 90.

Leading the area were Jamee Holmes of Tremont in sixth (17:59) and Kalla Gold of Eureka in ninth (18:11).
