"It's pretty easy to run the ball when you have a huge wall of linemen blocking for you. I read my blocks and tried to hit the holes," said Central Catholic High School's senior. "They do a great job on those punt returns. It's helped us out all year with our offense getting good field position."

Heaton's 43-yard touchdown on a punt return on the fourth play of Friday's Corn Belt Conference game against Eureka set the tone for the top-ranked Class 4A team in the state. Quarterback Adam Rebholz threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Saints routed Eureka, 42-7.

Central Catholic improved to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the league ahead of next Friday's showdown against unbeaten Mahomet-Seymour in Bloomington.

Heaton's first punt return for a TD this season wasn't a surprise to Central Catholic coach Bobby Moews.

"Ben's a big play-maker. He's the best return guy we've had in a long, long time," said Moews. "He made a couple other big plays tonight that were called back by penalties."

Eureka (2-4, 1-4) didn't have much luck against the Saints' defense after that. The Hornets had 167 yards of total offense and didn't score until an 8-yard Sam Durley pass to Adam Zobrist with 1:05 left.

Durley, who had thrown for 717 yards coming into the game, saw No. 70 in a white uniform in his backfield most of the game.

"They got a lot of pressure on us. In my opinion, Joe Ring is one of the best defensive linemen in the state on any level," said Eureka coach Kurt Barth, whose team trailed at halftime, 28-0. "We knew we had to take care of him. At times we did, but for the most part he did what he wanted up front."

Eureka dared Rebholz to go deep, and he gladly obliged. Eight of Rebholz's 14 completions went for 20 or more yards. Dan Curran caught TD passes of 34 and 31 yards, while tight end Dylan Johnson hauled in a 20-yard scoring strike. Rebholz threw for 292 yards, with Curran hauling in five receptions for 120 yards and Johnson four for 103 yards.

"They were eight or nine in the box and had no safeties," said Moews. "They were just not going to let us run, especially to the split side. You just have to take what they're going to give you."

Heaton and his teammates didn't savor the victory too long.

"Now that this game is over we're definitely looking forward to Mahomet," said Heaton. "It's going to be a big week for us next week. We'll try to have a lot of fun with them."
