DEKALB - The Bloomington Junior High School wrestling team, led by three first place finishers, won the state championship of the IESA State Wrestling finals Saturday at Northern Illinois University.

It was the sixth state final finish for the Knights in the past seven years and the second straight state championship for BJHS.

David Watts took first place for the Knights in the 126 pound division with a 6-2 decision over Jonah Coggeshall of Camp Point Central while Alex Bee and Demetrius West won by pinning their opponents.

Bee took first in 135 pounds by pinning Ryan Thome of New Lenox Liberty at the 2:06 mark while West won the heavyweight division with a pin of Max Lyday of Wilmington Stevens in a time of 2:01.

Other medalists for Bloomington included second place finishes by Derrik Watts in the 75 pound class and Brackey Kruse at 85 pounds, while Parker Johnson finished second for the second year in a row at 90 pounds.

Jonathon Wimp finished fifth at 155 pounds for the Knights.

"The kids were pushed to the limit and beyond, both mentally and physically," said Bloomington head coach Jeremy Mosier. "They responded and did something (winning back-to-back titles) that hasn't been done very often."
