5 years ago (2004): The BNGSA Extreme Motors Angels topped the BNGSA Avanti's Angels Elite, 2-0, in the championship game of the 18-and-under division of the State Farm Firecracker Invitational at Champion Fields. Calli Grimes (7-3) pitched a five-hit shutout.
15 years ago (1994): Billy DuBois hit a grand slam and John Staltzenburg had a two-run homer to lead the Bloomington Bobcats over Springfield Pallies, 11-4, in the Riverton Fourth of July Baseball Tournament. The Bobcats finished third in the eight-team field.
25 years ago (1984): Dave Hoover of Normal and Mary Toohill of LeRoy were the respective men's and women's overall winners at the Normal Parks and Recreation Run. Hoover toured the 10-kilometer course in 32 minutes, 41 seconds and Toohill finished in 40:46.
50 years ago (1959): Bloomington High swimmer Tom Stock will become a globetrotter if successful in this week's national AAU Men's Senior Championships at Los Altos, Calif. The meet will determine the 15-man American squad which will travel for a meet in Japan.
