Normal Community High School's volleyball team started quickly Saturday night, downing Quincy in the opening set of the Class 4A Regional championship match at Normal.
However, top-seeded Quincy rallied to earn a 14-25, 25-23, 25-22 victory and advance to its own sectional with a 32-2 record.
Illinois State recruit Jenny Menendez had 15 kills and 14 digs to lead second-seeded NCHS (27-9). Taylor Coughlin added 12 kills, Lindsey Freed had a team-high 20 assists and Liz Heid led in service points with eight.
"In the first game we served really well," NCHS coach Natalie Sutimek said. "They were out of system pretty much every time we were serving. The second and third games we didn't get as much accomplished on the service line. We made a lot of errors that added up and it cost us in the end.
"But I'm really proud of our team. We played so hard tonight. I'm definitely proud of everything we accomplished this year."
CLASS 3A
At Lincoln: Lincoln, the No. 1 seed, defeated third-seeded Decatur-MacArthur 25-12, 21-25, 25-21 in the championship game of the Lincoln Regional. Lincoln will meet Springfield High at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday night in the Mount Zion Sectional.
CLASS 2A
At Hoopeston: Top-seeded Bismarck-Henning defeated No. 3 seed PBL, 25-11, 25-16 to win the championship of the Hoopeston Regional.
Allison Kolakowski had four kills and one block for the Panthers (12-15) while Taylor Rubarts finished with six service points and seven digs.
At Herscher: Third-seeded El Paso-Gridley won the first game, but that was it as top-seeded Clifton Central topped the Titans, 16-25, 25-9, 25-15 in the championship game of the Herscher Regional.
At Clinton: Taylor Eichelberger had eight kills and Elizabeth Alberts added 20 assists to help No. 1 seed Olympia beat second-seeded Clinton 25-9, 25-18 in the championship game of the Clinton Regional.
Tifani Gordon had 10 service points for Olympia (21-10) while Savanna Thomas had seven service points and 12 digs for Clinton (19-18).
CLASS 1A
At Flanagan: Flanagan-Cornell, the No. 3 seed, cruised to an upset victory over top-seeded Lexington, edging the Minutemen, 25-14, 25-19 to take the regional crown in the Flanagan Regional.
Kenzi Mogged and Taylor Wheat had nine kills apiece to lead the Falcons (21-16) while Emily Gundy added 16 assists. Mogged also had 12 service points for Flanagan-Cornell while Kati Norrod finished with 11 digs.
Brittney Algar had seven kills to lead the Minutemen (21-14) while Erika Elias added 13 digs. Hannah Sleep contributed 12 assists for Lexington.
The Falcons meet CPCI on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Iroquois West Sectional.
At Granville: Carly Perschnick had nine kills, three blocks and five digs to lead No. 1 seed Dwight to a 25-18, 25-6 victory over third-seeded Henry in the championship game of the Putnam County Regional.
Kolby Hoffman added 11 kills for the Trojans (30-7) while Amie Hogan contributed 15 service points and 23 assists. Chaney Tambling had four kills and five digs for Dwight.
The Trojans advance to play Newark at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Somonauk Sectional.
At Gibson City: Lauryn Reiners had five kills and three blocks, while Katrina Colclasure contributed 16 assists in Tri-Valley's 25-22, 25-15 upset of No. 1 seed Fisher in the GCMS Regional championship match.
Erin Kelley had nine digs and Brandi Hammer four kills and seven service points for the second-seeded Vikings, who meet Danville Schlarman at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Iroquois West Sectional.
Kailey Roberts had eight digs and seven service points for Fisher.
At Glasford: Nichole Wagenbach had six kills and Dory Dudley added 10 digs to lead No. 1 seed Tremont to a 25-23, 25-23 sweep over second-seeded Deer Creek-Mackinaw in the championship game of the Glasford Regional.
Valerie Weghorst and Whitney Volk added three blocks apiece for the Turks while Janelle Barrow finished with 15 assists.
Alyssa Lelm had eight kills and five blocks to lead Dee-Mack. Sheila Grimm added 12 assists while Emily Orrick had seven digs.
Tremont faces Sciota West Prairie at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Williamsfield Sectional.
At New Berlin: A-C Central, the No. 1 seed, topped second-seeded Illini Central, 26-24, 15-25, 25-18 to win the championship of the Herscher Regional.
At St. Anne: Top seeded CPCI cruised to a 25-17, 25-17 victory over Iroquois West to win the championship of the St. Anne Regional.
Ashley Morris had 10 digs to lead No. 3 seed Iroquois West while Nikki Fatka added three kills and two blocks.
