Check back Friday for in-game updates and final results from these games.
Time: 7 p.m. Friday
Place: Danville
Records: Season and Big 12 Conference opener
Radio: WJBC-AM (1230)
FYI: Danville seeks to build on back-to-back playoff seasons, led by juniors Mario Crosby (467 yards rushing) and Derrick Cunningham (438 yards receiving). Crosby could move to quarterback after the graduation of Kendall Carter, who accounted for more than 2,000 yards and 21 TDs last year. BHS, ranked No. 10 in Class 6A, will be without four starters for disciplinary reasons, including star tailback/safety Darrelynn Dunn. The Raiders have won 11 straight openers.
Time: 7 p.m. Friday
Place: Bill Hundman Memorial Field, Bloomington
Records: Season and Corn Belt Conference opener
Radio: WTRX-FM (93.7)
FYI: Central Catholic, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, shoots for its 30th consecutive season-opening win. The Saints will do so without senior quarterback/safety Adam Rebholz, who is serving a one-game disciplinary suspension. Junior Taylor Jewett will start in his place at quarterback. Prairie Central hopes to bounce back strong after going 0-9 last year. The Hawks have been to the playoffs seven times in nine years under coach Brian Hassett.
Time: 7 p.m. Friday
Place: Normal
Records: Season and Big 12 Conference opener
FYI: NCHS carries a No. 6 state ranking into the head coaching debut of Wes Temples, the defensive coordinator on last year's 12-1 team. Urbana was 1-8 last season, but looks to improve behind senior transfer Eric Miles. The 6-foot, 215-pounder rushed for 784 yards last year at East Central High School, splitting time between running back and quarterback. He will start at running back and middle linebacker tonight.
Time: 7 p.m. Friday
Place: Tommy Stewart Field, Champaign
Records: Season and Big 12 Conference opener
FYI: Champaign Central beat Bloomington and rival Centennial last year during a 5-5 playoff season. The Maroons return their leading skill position players in quarterback Doug Kyrouac, tailback Denzel Stewart and receiver Joey Holmer. Normal West will try to keep the ball out of their hands with a running game led by senior tailback Darius Bell, who rushed for 1,115 yards last year.
Time: 7:45 p.m. Friday
Place: Eureka
Records: Season and Corn Belt Conference opener
FYI: Dusty Burk makes his head coaching debut for U High, which is looking to avenge a 35-22 loss to Eureka last year. U High senior Will Brucker averaged 8.0 yards per carry a year ago and will get the ball more often this season. Eureka's victory last year was its first over the Pioneers since 1965, snapping a 13-game losing streak. U High is 22-3 all-time vs. the Hornets, who have not won a season opener since 2003.
