BLOOMINGTON - After falling behind, 27-10, Ridgeview High School outscored No. 9-state ranked Brimfield by two the rest of the way Saturday in a 62-47 loss in the Heartland Diversity Officials Association Girls Basketball Shootout.

"We really didn't show up at first," said Ridgeview senior guard Lauren Kellar, who scored a game-high 22 points at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. "We are a little bit better than that."

Brimfield's 6-foot-3 Division I prospect, Paige Spietz, was as good as advertised, scoring 21 points to go with 12 rebounds and six blocks as her team improved to 20-1. She made 9 of 13 shots from the field before fouling out with 2:07 left.

Among those courting the agile junior are Rutgers, Illinois State, Missouri, Western Illinois, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Loyola, DePaul, Bradley, North Carolina-Charlotte, Wright State and Cleveland State.

"She's got a nice soft shot," said Brimfield coach Jim Blane. "She's got lightning quickness and speed. She defends well."

Ridgeview coach Mindy Whitehouse thought her team (13-3) could have defended better if Paige Nord wasn't battling a breathing ailment.

"She is going to have to get an inhaler," Whitehouse said. "When you take out a critical player like that, it changes the whole game."

Nord still managed nine points while 5-foot-9 Jasmine Hughes chipped in eight points and four rebounds besides guarding Spietz.

"This was by far her best game," Whitehouse said of Hughes.

The game ball was presented Brimfield junior Kelsey Herridge, whose 11 points gave her 1,005 for her career. Teammate Brycie Courter added 16 points.
