Brief summaries of Pantagraph-area boys basketball games played Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009:

Prairie Central 54, GCMS 48: Josh Fields tossed in a team-high 19 points while Jordan Pilgrim and Austin Stephens added nine each as Prairie Central earned its first victory by beating GCMS in the GCMS Thanksgiving Tournament at Gibson City.

Tyler Buhs paced GCMS (0-2) with 19 points and seven rebounds. Austin Borton had 15 points for the Falcons.

Heritage 58, Blue Ridge 53: Blue Ridge (0-2) placed three players in double figures, led by Cody Warren’s 14 points, in a loss to Heritage in other tourney action at Gibson City. Tanner Trent and Trevor Roth had 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Knights, who trailed 31-23 at halftime.

Rantoul 73, Mount Pulaski 58: Despite 23 points from junior guard Mitch Holmes, Mount Pulaski fell to Rantoul in its season opener in the Thanksgiving Tournament at Gibson City. Mitch Litterly had 15 points for the Hilltoppers, who led 33-26 at halftime.

Dee-Mack 52, Lexington 47: Matt Krause scored a game-high 23 points to lead Deer Creek-Mackinaw to victory over a shorthanded Lexington team in action at the Peoria Heights Thanksgiving Tournament.

Krause had nine points in the pivotal third quarter as the Chiefs turned a 21-18 halftime deficit into a 33-28 lead with one period to play.

Michael Baker scored 17 points to lead the Minutemen, who dressed just seven for the game due to football. Evan Thomas added 14 for Lexington (0-2) while Matt Petersen finished with 10.

Fieldcrest 55, Roanoke-Benson 27: Nathan Ropp finished with a game-high 17 points, leading Fieldcrest over Roanoke-Benson in the nonconference season opener for both teams at Roanoke.

Michael Winkler added seven points for the Knights while Brandon Defreeze and Kirby Wagner had six points apiece to lead the Rockets.

Dwight 50, Beecher 27: Jens Kennedy netted a game-high 14 points and Jason Karstens added 12 as Dwight opened its own Thanksgiving Tournament with a season-opening rout. The Trojans used a 17-5 third-quarter surge to extend a 25-13 halftime advantage to 42-18.

Rich Central 67, Pontiac 66, OT: Devon Almon made a free throw with 5.6 seconds left before Pontiac missed a game-winning shot as Rich Central earned an overtime win in the Ottawa Tournament.

Luke Gschwendtner paced the Indians with a game-high 27 points. Adam Casson added 13 for the Indians in their season opener.

Iroquois West 53, Milford 36: Colby Barham had team highs of 13 points and eight assists to lead the Raiders to victory over Milford at the Hoopeston Tourney. Kyle Pool added 12 points for Iroquois West (1-1) while Brandon Fancher and Aaron Thomas each finished with 10.

PBL 65, Clinton 38: Dylan Overstreet scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Panthers to victory over Clinton in the PBL/Central Interstate Classic Tournament at Paxton.

Overstreet had nine points in the second quarter as the Panthers outscored the Maroons 23-5 in the period for a 40-12 lead at the half. Connor Allen added 11 points for the Panthers while Aaron Ennis scored eight points to lead Clinton.

Tri-Valley 60, Armstrong 44: The Vikings topped Armstrong-Potomac in the PBL/Central Interstate Classic Tournament at Paxton. No other information was available.

Peotone 43, CPCI 28: Reed Anderson scored a team-high 10 points and Jordan Wyss had eight for CPCI in a loss at the Interstate Classic Tournament at Clifton. The Timberwolves (0-2) led 7-6 after one quarter but were held to two points in the second period to trail 15-9 at halftime.

Woodland 52, Paw Paw 40: Junior Matt Hays scored a team-high 19 points and Lucas Skul added 10 as Woodland opened its season with a win in the Thanksgiving Tournament at South Streator. Jimmy Kling chipped in eight points for the Warriors, who led 29-19 at halftime and 40-35 after three quarters.

Porta 60, Hartem 56: Cody Bolen scored 17 points to lead the Stags in a loss to Petersburg PORTA at the Athens Warrior Classic. Jason O’Brien added 13 points for Hartsburg-Emden (0-2) while Jordan West finished with 10.

Delavan 58, Athens 44: Brady Zimmer finished with 34 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter, as the Panthers pulled away for the victory at the Athens Warrior Classic.

Zimmer was 9 of 9 from the free throw line as Delavan extended a 23-18 halftime lead to 37-28 after three periods. Kelly Wass added nine points for the Panthers (2-0).

Canton 69, Illini Central 52: Carlos Riobo scored 18 points and Danny Harman had 12 as Illini Central (0-1) dropped its season opener to the host school at the Canton Tournament. Alex Bradshaw had 10 points for the Cougars, who trailed 30-23 at halftime.
