DANVILLE — Senior guard Justin Myers had a strong start and an even stronger finish Wednesday for the Ridgeview High School basketball team.

Myers topped his 12-point first quarter with 17 in the fourth, finishing with a school-record 41 as the No. 7-ranked Mustangs completed a 76-59 victory over Decatur Lutheran in the semifinals of the Class 1A Danville Schlarman Sectional.

"He got to the basket and he finishes so well. He has that extra gear that's tough for people to stop," said Ridgeview coach Rodney Kellar.

Myers also led the team with 10 rebounds. Alex Tongate contributed 15 points while Jacob Donaldson added 10 points, seven boards and five assists.

The Mustangs improved to 24-7 and advanced to face St. Anne (15-13) in Friday's 7 p.m. sectional final. Decatur Lutheran, led by Ezra Schaal's 21 points, finished its season at 23-5.

"We're thrilled to death to have made it to March," said Kellar, who gave a lot of credit to the Mustangs' supporting cast alongside Myers.

"It was also the other pieces around him," the coach said. "Alex's 15 was huge. Jacob fouled out with six minutes left and that's a huge void, but (Levi) Zimmerman and (Tristan) Campbell made big threes to help us keep them at bay."

Kellar also praised Zimmerman's defensive effort against Grant Karsten, who was held to one point.

Myers made 11 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter as Ridgeview made 19 of 24 foul shots in the final eight minutes.

"You play 32 minutes and finish like that ... he outdid himself in the fourth quarter," said Kellar.
