URBANA — Chris Payton notched his first career triple double while leading the Bloomington High School basketball team to a 97-73 victory over Urbana on Friday. He finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists and two steals.
The Purple Raiders, who are ranked No. 8 in Class 4A, improved to 16-6 overall and 6-2 in the Big 12 Conference while the Tigers fell to 7-13 and 1-6.
Rayquon Fuller scored a season-high 20 points to match Patrick Fisher's total. Fisher also had eight assists while Donzell Johnson had five steals. Urbana received 24 points from Payton Sheen and 19 from Kamari Ray-Davis.
The Purple Raiders built a 19-11 lead after one quarter and a 38-30 gap after two. BHS exploded for 31 points in the third period while holding its host to 20.
Fuller impressed BHS coach Micheal Mosley, whose team notched a season-high point total.
"He's been big for us these past couple games," Mosley said. "He's been steadily getting better for us. He's really good around the basket and cleaning up the boards. Anyone who runs the floor like him is going to get rewarded."
Payton only had four points at halftime.
"He was doing other things," Mosley said. "The second half, we opened things up in transition and we dominated inside.
"Fisher's starting to step into those shoes we wanted him to. He was creating opportunities for himself and others. This game we wanted to make a statement because this was our only conference loss last year."
