Lincoln High School basketball coach Neil Alexander became the fifth coach in Illinois High School Association history to record 800 wins Friday as the Railsplitters downed Effingham, 45-36, in an Apollo Conference game at Effingham.
The Railers improved to 20-5 overall and 10-1 in the Apollo while clinching at least a share of the title in their first year in the league. Lincoln can clinch the outright title with a win at Taylorville next Friday.
Jermaine Hamlin led the Railers, who trailed 24-20 at halftime, with 13 points.
Fieldcrest 68, Heyworth 52: Cam Grandy led four players in double figures with 19 points as Fieldcrest posted the Heart of Illinois Conference victory over Heyworth at Minonk. Hayden Carls added 15 points, Ryan Naas 13 and Derek May 12 for the Knights (15-10, 5-6).
May led Fieldcrest in rebounds with nine and also had five assists. Jaxon Cusac-McKay had a team-high six assists. Heyworth (12-10, 6-7) was paced by Tate Eller and Matt Schultz with 16 points each.
Fisher 50, Lexington 49 OT: Jaden Jones-Watkins poured in 22 points while Dalton Burk chipped in 13 and Ryan Meents 10 for Fisher (13-13, 3-8) in an HOIC overtime victory at Lexington (6-19, 0-12).
The Minutemen, who were outscored 8-7 in the extra period, received 15 points from Adam Baillie. Tate Walcott added 13 and Nicholas Beard 10.
GCMS 63, Eureka 43: Mitch McNutt and Ryland Holt scored 16 points each to lead Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley to the HOIC win over Eureka at Gibson City.
Bryce Barnes added 13 points for GCMS (22-3, 10-1), which led 32-19 at the half. Keith Walder scored 13 and Alex Brittain 12 for Eureka (11-11, 6-5).
Ridgeview 78, Blue Ridge 39: Justin Myers scored a game-high 23 points to lead Ridgeview past Blue Ridge in HOIC action at Colfax.
Jacob Donaldson added 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Mustangs (22-4, 9-3), while Alex Tongate scored 16 points. Levi Zimmerman led Ridgeview in assists with eight. Trey Jamison had 14 points to lead Blue Ridge (4-18, 1-11).
EPG 68, Tri-Valley 58: Dylan Smith's 18 points led a balanced attack as El Paso-Gridley downed Tri-Valley in HOIC play at El Paso.
Smith sank four 3-pointers en route to his game-high total. Aaron Steiner added 17 points, Hub Halvorsen 16 and Teron Fairchild 11 for EPG (13-11, 6-5). Fairchild also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Tri-Valley (12-11, 7-4) received 12 points from Mason Cagley.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw 45, LeRoy 38: Dawson Jones scored 14 points and Levi Scheuermann 12 to pace Deer Creek-Mackinaw (20-6, 8-3) to a Heart of Illinois victory at LeRoy (15-9, 7-5).
The Panthers, who trailed 25-17 at intermission, received 12 points apiece from Will Dooley and Nick Perry.
Tremont 61, Midwest Central 58: Landon Pflederer and Logan Pflederer each scored 17 points to send Tremont (19-7) to the nonconference victory at Manito. Josh Duncan and Jameson Woodley had 16 points apiece for Midwest Central.
Prairie Central 67, Rantoul 55: The Hawks overcame a 15-8 first quarter deficit to grab an Illini Prairie Conference win at Rantoul. Eddie Shumaker netted a game-high 18 points for Prairie Central, which also received 10 points from Wyatt Steidinger.
Macon Meridian 71, Clinton 58: Austin Rauch scored 12 points for host Clinton (12-10, 2-4) in a Central Illinois Conference loss.
Mount Pulaski 66, Illini Central 50: Peyton Taylor's 21 points powered Mount Pulaski to victory at Mason City. Gezus Oliver added 18 points and Drew Martin 12 for the Hilltoppers.
Lane Johnson paced the hosts with 13 points.
Dwight 52, Iroquois West 35: Dwight sank 10 3-pointers to capture a Sangamon Valley Conference home contest. Cal Schultz led the Trojans with 12 points.
Seneca 56, Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland 36: Jadyn Mitchell scored a game-high 25 points for the Falcons in their loss in the championship game of the Class 2A Flanagan Regional.
The Falcons had opened a 13-4 first quarter lead before Seneca rallied to tie the game at 23-23 at halftime and pull away in the second half.
Lyda Robinson had 23 points for Seneca.
21 reach Olympia semis: The Pantagraph area put 21 wrestlers into Saturday's semifinals of the Class 1A Olympia Sectional at Stanford. Heyworth and El Paso-Gridley have three semifinalists each followed by GCMS-Fisher, Prairie Central, LeRoy, Olympia, Clinton and Deer Creek-Mackinaw with two each.
Among the biggest quarterfinal upsets was Deer Creek-Mackinaw's Joey Regnier winning 4-1 over No. 2-ranked Cade Kerns of Prairie Central at 220. No. 4 Chad Grimm of Beardstown edged No. 3 Brandon Hoselton of Prairie Central, 7-5, at 195. No. 4 Jacob Smith of Clifton Central topped No. 3 Luke Shobe of Clinton, 9-1, at 170.
Saturday's sessions are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The top four at each weight advance to next week's state tournament at Champaign.
5 reach Sycamore semis: Bloomington's Ryan Gardner (126), Savion Haywood (132) and Josiah Heinz (195) along with Streator's Mike Dunkleberger (145) and Pontiac's Liam Melvin (220) won quarterfinal matches in the Class 2A Sycamore Sectional.
Lincoln's Bree in semifinals: Trevor Bree of host Lincoln advanced to the semifinals at 132 in Class 2A sectional action. Bree topped Mount Zion's Peyton Mahan, 9-3.
Area 5 eye Alton wrestle-backs: Normal Community's three entrants and Normal West's two dropped into the wrestle-backs in the Class 3A Alton Sectional.
