NORMAL — The Cowden Herrick High School girls’ basketball team used a 21-9 third-quarter run Friday to pull away from Illini Bluffs, 63-54, in the semifinals of the Class 1A State Tournament at Redbird Arena.
Illini Bluffs’ Taylor McClintock led all scorers with 38 points, hitting 15 of 30 shots from the field while making all six of her free throws. Hannah Wall and Kenzie Wall each pulled down 10 rebounds for the Indians (24-6), who fought back from a 49-31 fourth-quarter deficit but came up short.
Micah Jones powered Cowden Herrick with 11 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists and five blocks. Faith Wendte scored 20 points and Bailey Doty added 18 for the Hornets (29-3).
Quincy Notre Dame 74, Aurora Central Catholic 36: Defending champion Quincy Notre Dame jumped to a 19-5 first-quarter lead in a convincing win over Aurora Central Catholic in the semifinals of the Class 2A State Tournament at Redbird Arena.
Jordan Frericks scored 17 points, while Kassidy Gengenbacher and Shannon Foley had 16 each for the Lady Raiders (32-1), who outscored the Chargers, 46-20, over the middle two quarters.
Aurora Central Catholic (25-7) got 14 points and 11 rebounds from Ashley Wilk.
Quincy Notre Dame meets Breese Central for the title today following the Aurora Central Catholic vs. Stillman Valley third-place game, which tips off at 6:30 p.m.
