Aaron Steiner's layup with four seconds to play off an assist from Jack Weber lifted El Paso-Gridley High School's basketball team past Fieldcrest, 61-59, Friday night in a Heart of Illinois Conference basketball game at El Paso.
Steiner's winning shot came after the Knights' Jaxon McKay tied the game on a drive with 36 seconds to play.
Steiner finished with 15 points to lead a balanced attack for EPG (11-5, 5-2), with Dylan Smith at 14, Hub Halvorsen at 12 and Weber at 10. Steiner and Weber each had nine rebounds.
McKay led all scorers with 22 and Derek May added 14 for Fieldcrest (11-5, 3-3). Cam Grandy grabbed 10 boards.
Ridgeview 71, Tri-Valley 54: Justin Myers and Jacob Donaldson combined for 54 points as Ridgeview surged to a Heart of Illinois win over Tri-Valley at Colfax.
Myers finished with 31 on 10 field goals and 10 free throws while Donaldson scored 13 of his 23 at the free-throw line for the Class 1A No. 1 Mustangs (14-2, 6-1), who widened a 35-32 halftime lead to 55-44 entering the fourth quarter.
Brock Ward had 17 and Nolan Anderson 10 for the Vikings (7-7, 4-3).
Dee-Mack 64, Tremont 51: Neal Scheuermann finished with 17 points and Deer Creek-Mackinaw took a 49-27 lead into the fourth quarter in claiming an HOIC win at Mackinaw. Dawson Jones added 13 and Levi Scheuermann 11 for the Chiefs (13-3, 4-1) while Tim Rice, Logan Pflederer and Luke Barrow had 12 apiece for Tremont (11-5, 5-3).
Pontiac 55, Prairie Central 41: Ryan Weir scored 16 points to power Pontiac to the Illini Prairie Conference victory at Fairbury. Ben Schuler added 10 points, while Alden Rutledge and Michael Davis scored nine each for Pontiac (5-8 overall).
Prairie Central (6-9) was led by Billy Printz with nine points.
Clinton 50, Central A&M 40: Chase Reynolds' 16 points led the Maroons in a Central Illinois Conference win over Central A&M at Clinton. Dalton Smith added nine for Clinton (9-6, 1-1), which closed with a 17-10 fourth.
Roanoke-Benson 50, Woodland 35: Jake Weber finished with 12 points to lead three Rockets in double figures in a Tri-County Conference victory at Roanoke. Jordan Huschen followed with 11 and Trent Weldon had 10 for Roanoke (10-5, 3-1). Chandler Hillenbrenner led Woodland (2-16, 0-4) with seven.
Mount Pulaski 59, Midwest Central 44: Gezus Oliver scored 19 points and Peyton Taylor 16 as Mount Pulaski (13-5) won at Manito.
Fieldcrest 43, EPG 38: Leah White led a balanced attack with 11 points as Fieldcrest downed El Paso-Gridley in a HOIC game at El Paso. Emma Lorton added nine points and Lexi Jochums eight for the Knights (13-5, 6-4). EPG (14-4, 6-3) was paced by Aubrey Staton's 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
Calvary 25, Uni-High 19: Jacy Wingate scored 13 points and Rebecca Orns 11 in Calvary Christian's East Central Illinois Conference home win over Urbana Uni-High. Orns grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds and Wingate had 10 for Calvary (8-7). Uni-High fell to 4-11.
Tremont 45, Dee-Mack 35: Vanessa Ehnle scored 14 points to lead Tremont to the HOIC victory over Deer Creek-Mackinaw at Mackinaw. Renee Hartman added 12 for Tremont.
