The University High School volleyball team (24-6) went 5-0 to win the 12-team Minooka Tournament on Saturday.
The Pioneers defeated Bolingbrook (25-14, 25-8) and Naperville North (23-25, 25-11, 25-17) on Friday in pool play. On Saturday, U High topped Glenbard South (25-13, 25-19), St. Charles North (16-25, 25-20, 25-22) and Minooka (25-21, 18-25, 25-19).
Oakland recruit Jamie Walling led the Pioneers with 61 kills and 12 blocks for the tournament. Abbie Seward added 44 kills and 36 digs while Hannah Lane had 108 assists.
Normal West (16-16) went 2-3 to finish fourth. On Saturday, the Wildcats defeated Joliet West, 26-24, 20-25, 25-20, before losing to Minooka, 25-6, 25-14, and St. Charles North, 25-15, 26-24.
Jamie Rys led West with 18 kills. Kayla Johnson added 27 assists, Hannah Sieg three aces, Carly Goben 27 digs and Maya Walker seven blocks.
NCHS takes 3rd: All-tournament selection Rachel Maguire had 32 kills to lead Normal Community (23-5) to third in the Autumn Fest Tournament at Glenbard East.
In the third-place match, the Iron defeated Huntley, 25-23, 25-23. NCHS opened with a 23-25, 25-16, 25-20 win over Glenbard West before falling to Chicago Mother McAuley, 25-12, 25-18.
Grace Cleveland of NCHS posted three-match totals of 25 kills and four blocks while Jamie Vasilou had 44 assists and Peyton Kelley 33 digs.
PBL wins: Kalista Klann's 18 assists sparked PBL to a 25-16, 26-17 victory over Clifton Central in the Sangamon Valley Conference Tournament. Katelyn Crabb added nine digs for the Panthers while Sindra Gerdes had six kills.
Fieldcrest 5th at Beecher: Fieldcrest defeated Danville Schlarman, 25-18, 25-15, in the fifth-place match of the Beecher Tournament. The Knights (17-11), who were 3-1 on the day, were led by Emma Petersen with 44 kills, Emma Fortner with 94 assists and Lexi Jochums with 36 digs.
Iroquois West 7h at SVC: Grace Schroeder had 21 kills, 52 digs, 13 blocks and 12 aces as Iroquois West finished seventh at the eight-team Sangamon Valley Conference Tournament. Rachel Carney led the Raiders with 22 assists.
West boys run 2nd: The Normal West boys finished second and the Normal Community girls third in the Big 12 Conference Meet at Peoria's Detweiller Park.
The Wildcat boys scored 55 points to trail only Danville (37). NCHS took fourth (112) and Bloomington fifth (144).
Runner-up Tyler Dunn (15:45) led West. Peoria Notre Dame's Patrick Burch won in 15:31. Nick Doud of BHS was third at 15:50.
For the girls, NCHS scored 65 points to trail only three-time defending champion Peoria Notre Dame (53) and Urbana (63).
Normal West, led by runner-up Mara Smith (18:08), finished fourth (66) while BHS was seventh (193). Notre Dame's Grace Breitbach won in 17:59. NCHS was led by Lauren Feldner in eighth (19:03).
Galloway wins at Patriot Invite: Daly Galloway of the Gardner-Dwight co-op won the Peoria Heights Invite for the fourth consecutive year at Peoria's Detweiler Park. She clocked 17:37 over the three-mile layout to win by 22 seconds.
Siverly shines: Dana Siverly posted the fifth best score in Pantagraph area diving history with a winning 237.85-point total to help University High win a home dual against Peoria Notre Dame, 112-73.
