BLOOMINGTON — Five area schools will be competing this weekend in the annual Illinois High School Association Competitive Cheerleading State Finals at Grossinger Motors Arena.
Squads from Eureka, Dwight and Bloomington high schools will be joined by coed teams from University High and Normal West in the event, which includes the top 100 cheerleading teams statewide in four classes — small, medium, large and coed.
Small and medium team preliminary performances begin Friday at 9:15 a.m., followed by large and coed preliminaries at 3:30 p.m. Doors open Saturday at 10 a.m. for team finals and team awards. Organizers anticipate more than 13,000 fans will attend the two-day event.
Tickets are $10 per day for general seating and can be purchased by contacting the Grossinger Motor Arena ticket office (309-434-2679). General seating tickets also will be available at the door.
Eureka performs at 9:25 a.m. Friday in the small team prelims, with Dwight (small team) performing at 10:05 a.m. and Bloomington (medium team) at 11 a.m. In the coed team division, U High performs at 4:15 p.m. and Normal West at 7 p.m. The top 10 in each division advance to Saturday's finals.
