Seniors Hunter Mull of Deer Creek-Mackinaw and Cameron Elam of Tri-Valley were unanimous two-way selections on the Heart of Illinois Conference all-star football team.
Mull and Elam were named as linemen on offense and defense. Both were two-way first-team selections last year as well, while Elam was a first-team choice on defense in 2015.
Other two-way first-team picks were Tri-Valley senior tight end and linebacker Tom Dolan, Tri-Valley senior offensive and defensive lineman Cody Steiner and Eureka senior quarterback and defensive back Jake Bachman. Steiner was a unanimous choice on offense and Bachman a unanimous pick on defense.
Senior running back Mitch McNutt from Class 2A state champion Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley was a unanimous repeat selection.
Joining him on the first team from GCMS were junior wide receiver Ryland Holt, senior offensive lineman Alex Rosenbaum, junior kicker Ben Freehill, junior linebacker Jared Trantina, senior defensive back Brooks Schmitt and junior defensive linemen Bryce Barnes and Josh Bleich. Holt and Rosenbaum were unanimous picks.
Elam, Dolan and Steiner were among six Tri-Valley players to earn first-team honors. Others were junior running back Zach Woodring, senior linebacker Brock Ward and senior defensive back Mason Cagley. Woodring was a unanimous pick.
Rounding out the unanimous selections were Fieldcrest senior quarterback Cam Grandy, Fieldcrest junior wide receiver Derek May and Eureka senior linebacker Preston Stahl. May and Stahl were repeaters from last year's first team.
Also making the first team were El Paso-Gridley junior running back Ryne Faulk, Heyworth senior wide receiver Matt Schultz, Dee-Mack senior tight end Dawson Jones, Eureka junior tight end Alex Brittain, EPG senior offensive lineman Corbin Heiken and Dee-Mack junior defensive back Levi Scheuermann.
