Jordan Walker scored five goals to key the Normal West High School boys soccer team to an 8-0 win over Cornerstone Christian on Wednesday at Normal.

Parker Theobald, Delphy Sabu and Luis Isidro added one goal each for the Wildcats (2-0). Theobald also contributed two assists with Walker, Clayton Davis and McCade Brown credited with one each.

West goalkeeper Ethan Stroyan had three saves.

Washington blanks BHS: Washington defeated Bloomington, 2-0, at Community Fields.

The Purple Raiders' record is 1-1.

Swimming

Ariola advances in world meet: Normal Community High School’s Grace Ariola advanced through the first two rounds of the 100-meter backstroke in the 6th FINA World Junior Championships at Indianapolis.

In the first round, her time of 1 minute, 00.67 seconds ranked fifth in a field of 52. In the semifinals, her 1:00.23 ranked fifth among eight qualifiers for Thursday’s final. Canada's Taylor Ruck posted the top semifinal time of 59.28.

Ariola will also compete in the 100 freestyle on Thursday, the 400 freestyle relay on Friday, the 50 backstroke on Saturday and the 50 freestyle on Sunday.
