Justin Alderson, Metamora co-op (20th, 1:55.95). The highest seeded freshman, Alderson ranks 11th in area history.

Fudge, U High (tie 27th, 1:56.71). This junior lowered his season best 4.41 seconds in the sectional.

50 freestyle: Colton Stogner, U High (tie 2nd, 20.99). As a sophomore last year, Stogner qualified ninth for the final, but false started in the final. He opened U High's 200 free relay in the sectional in 20.72 to break Zack Billingsley's 2011 school record of 20.98 and move to second on the all-time area list. Top seed Mateo Chavez of Chicago Young is at 20.80.

Diving: Gus Jumonville, Bloomington (41st, 389.15). A returning state qualifier, this senior helped BHS extend its streak of having a diving state qualifier to five consecutive years. He was 38th last year.

100 freestyle: Stogner, U High (1st, 45.46). In the sectional, Stogner broke the area record of 45.66. The No. 2 seed at 45.47 is St. Viator's Michael Balcerak.

200 freestyle relay: U High (Stogner, Neopmuceno, Kyle Johnson, Williamson) (13th, 1:26.30). In the sectional, this unit clocked the No. 6 time in area history and No. 5 time in school history.

100 backstroke: Brett Spires, Pontiac (6th, 51.72). Only three men in area history have gone faster than this junior, who placed 26th last year. A top-12 finish would make the school record holder Pontiac's first state medalist.

Byers, BHS (7th, 51.75). This senior, who ranks fifth in area history, placed 23rd a year ago. His sectional time broke Justin Wolfe's 2008 school record of 52.17.

All of his sectional times were faster than in 2016.
