WINNETKA — University High School junior Colton Stogner qualified for the finals in two events and a relay during preliminaries Friday in the Boys State Swimming Meet at New Trier High School.

Stogner qualified fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in 20.86 seconds and was sixth in the 100 freestyle in 45.66. Stogner later teamed with Elijah Gray, Kyle Johnson and Anthony Williamson to take the 12th spot in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:10.91.

Reid Byers of Bloomington also qualified for the 100 backstroke finals. He took 11th in the prelims in 51.51. The senior placed 23rd in the event last year. Byers took 16th in the 200 individual medley (1:54.92).

The finals will be Saturday. The top six in prelims swim for the first six places, with the next six going for spots 7-12.

Brett Spries of Pontiac just missed advancing in the 100 backstroke, taking 13th (51.83).

Among the U High swimmers, Harrison Fudge took 15th in the 100 breaststroke (58.27) and 33rd in the 200 IM (1:57.96); Williamson placed 22nd in the 200 freestyle (1:43.33) and 23rd in the 100 freestyle (48.07); and Josh Nepomuceno was 26th in the 100 breaststroke (59.39).

The Pioneers also were 22nd in the 200 medley relay (1:38.92) and 23rd in the 200 freestyle relay (1:26.30).

Diver Gus Jumonville of Bloomington was 24th with 192.90 points, an improvement of 14 spots from a year ago. Justin Alderson of the Metamora co-op was 19th in the 200 IM (1:55.87) and 33rd in the 100 breaststroke (59.99).
