The No. 3-state ranked Bloomington High School wrestling team advanced 10 men from the Class 2A Metamora Regional where it placed second behind No. 1 Washington on Saturday.
Washington scored 226.5 points to 194 for BHS. Pontiac tied for seventh with 47. Individual qualifiers head to Friday and Saturday's Sycamore Sectional. Washington (21-4) advanced to the Feb. 20 Mattoon Dual Team Sectional.
The Purple Raiders were led by champions Ryan Gardner (38-7 at 126) and Josiah Heinz (33-9 at 195).
BHS runners-up were Carson Oliger (27-14 at 113), Logan Hillard (24-17 at 120), Savion Haywood (21-1 at 132), Chanse Ridgeway (23-6 at 145), Jon McCullough (30-13 at 152) and Ben Wright (28-15 at 220).
Haywood, an Old Dominion recruit who came in ranked No. 1 at 138, dropped down to 132 and nearly became a four-time regional champion as he suffered his first loss of the season, 3-2, to Washington's Tyler Delaware, who is ranked No. 1 at 132.
Raider third-placers were Chad Bellis (22-10 at 106) and Mark Marshall (23-11 at 285). Pontiac advanced third-placers Tyler Lanning (28-14 at 182) and Liam Melvin (24-12 at 220).
Nartey wins at East Moline: Normal Community's Thadddeus Nartey (34-6 at 170) won his final, 3-1, over Minooka's Alec Dufour to advance from the Class 3A East Moline Regional with four other Pantagraph area wrestlers to the Alton Sectional.
Nartey helped NCHS score 65.5 points to place sixth among nine teams. Normal West was seventh with 61. Minooka won with 200.
NCHS also advanced runner-up Joshua Delgadillo (28-9 at 138) and third-placer Ethan Stathem (22-11 at 220). Normal West qualified runner-up Chad Lawyer (32-11 at 132) and third-placer Aaron Shaw (29-9 at 120).
West fourth-placers included Tyler Mackin (113), Luke Gentry (170) and Skyler Hufeld (285). Fourth for NCHS were Abel Ninan (106) and Jadon Robisnon (182).
Prairie Central advances six: Prairie Central had three champions among six qualifiers to the Olympia Sectional after finishing second to the host school in the Class 1A Coal City Regional.
Logan Deacetis (132), Drew Hoselton (170) and Cade Kerns (220) all won finals. Deacetis decisioned Coal City's Lane Kutemeier, 6-1. Hoselton pinned Clifton Central's Jacob Smith in 52 seconds. Kerns scored a technical fall in the championship bout.
Prairie Central's Garrett Johnson qualified second behind Andrew Steffes of Kankakee McNamara at 126. Also advancing for the Hawks with second-place finishes were Brandon Hoselton (195) and Alex Steidinger (285).
Dwight, which finished eighth, is sending third-placer Daniel Gutierrez (145).
Coal City scored 205.5 to win and advance to the GCMS Dual Team Sectional at Gibson City. Prairie Central (181.5) topped Clifton Central (159.5) for second.
EPG claims Eureka title: El Paso-Gridley and Tremont each scored 150 points to tie for the Class 1A Eureka Regional crown, however EPG won the tie-breaker and will advance to the dual team sectional at Gibson City on Feb. 20.
EPG had four titlists, including Monte Gregory, who improved to 38-1 with a victory in the championship match at 106. Other EPG winners were Owen Stine (120), Neal Downen (170) and Dylan Reeves (182).
Tremont grabbed a pair of titles with Tanner Finin winning by pin at 132 and Caleb Schwenk posting a 9-3 decision over Dee-Mack's Keyth Frisby at 160.
Asher Wiegand of Eureka improved to 32-1 with a 5-2 decision over Chase Bishop of Tremont at 126.
Lincoln's O'Donoghue wins: Lincoln's Alex O'Donoghue downed Springfield Lanphier's Cody Wheeler, 6-5, to claim the 126-pound title in the Class 2A Jacksonville Regional. O'Donoghue is among four Lincoln qualifiers for Friday and Saturday's sectional hosted by the Railsplitters.
Colton Davis (120) and Trevor Bree (132) advanced second while Tyson Opel (285) qualified third. Lincoln finished fifth in a meet won by Chatham Glenwood, which advanced to the Mattoon Dual Team Sectional.
Two advance for Streator: Streator's Mike Dunkleberger (29-4 at 145) and Alex Granados (3-1 at 285) advanced from the Class 2A Sandwich Regional to next week's Sycamore Sectional.
Dunkleberger lost, 6-4, to Plano's Ivan Garcia in the final while Granados won his third-place match over Kaneland's John Davis by fall in :39.
Streator scored 44.5 points in eighth. Ottawa won with 186. The Bulldogs' Rafael Pantoja (13-9) was fourth at 106.
