BLOOMINGTON — Port Huron’s Nick Lindberg scored with 20 seconds left in overtime to give the Icehawks a 3-2 victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder in front of 2,614 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum on Friday night.

The Thunder built a 2-0 lead midway through the second period, but Port Huron rallied with goals in the second and third periods to force overtime.

“We didn’t manage the puck well enough,” Thunder coach Jarrod Skalde said. “We had our opportunities to go up 3-nothing several times, but we just kept giving it away.”

Matt McIlvane and Craig Macdonald gave the Thunder a 2-0 lead by the midway point of the second period. McIlvane posted his third goal of the season, while Macdonald registered his team-leading 12th.

Port Huron’s Brandon Naurato made it 2-1 with 4:35 left in the second period, and Mickael Bedard tied it with 15:13 left in regulation.

The Thunder lost captain Jon Booras to a game misconduct when he was whistled for checking from behind late in the first period.

“He was just being aggressive on the penalty kill,” Skalde said. “The guy’s back was turned, and he went hard into the boards. But it left us with a hole in our lineup.”

Without Booras to center a key line, Skalde felt his team forced too many passes.

“Instead of making an easy play, we’d try to get it through two or three guys,” he said. “It’d get intercepted, and that just kept giving them life.”

Andrew Martin took the loss in the Thunder net. He made 28 saves.

Bloomington continues its weekend with a 7:05 p.m. game today at Quad City.
