Ken Williams loves to take a proactive approach when it comes to trades, as his acquisition of pitcher Freddy Garcia showed more than a month before the July 31 non-waiver trading deadline in 2004. | MLB page
But the White Sox's general manager told the Chicago Tribune he hasn't assigned his professional scouts to watch specific players who may be available this season.
The Sox's biggest acquisition for this year could be the re-signing of Dewayne Wise, who has fulfilled Williams' desire for a left-handed-hitting outfielder who can run.
"I see no reason why he can't be a part of this," said Williams, referring to the possibility Wise will stay on the roster when first baseman Paul Konerko comes off the disabled list next week.
The Sox's biggest issue could be who to subtract from the 25-man roster rather than who should be added, but Williams isn't about to reveal the club's decision until Konerko is very close to being ready.
In the meantime, Williams reiterated his faith in his current roster, provided the offense produces results similar to its season-high seven-run eruption in the third inning Friday against the Cubs.
