PEORIA - The Peoria Chiefs are selling the naming rights to O'Brien Field, the home ballpark for the Class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. | Chiefs win in ninth
If the idea goes according to plan, they'll sell it again tomorrow. And the day after that and the day after that and …
For $6,000 per night, the Chiefs will change the name of their ballpark, within reason, for any regular-season game this year at the downtown ballpark.
The offer primarily targets business owners and includes naming rights for a day, stadium signage atop of each dugout, in-game commercials on the stadium video board and 50 game tickets plus food and non-alcoholic beverages.
The first "Naming Rights for a Game" option has been sold to a Peoria lawn maintenance company for the May 15 game against Quad City.
The Chiefs' stadium has been known as O'Brien Field since it opened in 2002.
Chiefs officials say they believe this is the first daily naming rights option in minor league baseball.
The naming rights option is available to more than just businesses, Chiefs spokesman Nathan Baliva said.
"We would definitely figure out a way to accommodate any individuals or families who wanted to purchase the opportunity," Baliva said.
Baliva said the team plans to announce more naming rights deals next week.
