HOUSTON - The Chicago Cubs placed Jon Lieber on the 15-day disabled list because of a right foot strain on Friday and recalled infielder Micah Hoffpauir from Triple-A Iowa. | MLB page

The 38-year-old Lieber is 2-3 with a 3.43 ERA this season. He last pitched on July 10 against Cincinnati, allowing two runs and three hits in two innings of work. He was put on the disabled list retroactive to July 11.

Last season, Lieber ruptured a tendon in his right foot and had season-ending surgery on July 6. He said the latest injury is unrelated to his previous foot problems and said he should be ready to pitch again in a week.

Hoffpauir begins his third stint with the Cubs. In 36 games with Iowa this season, Hoffpauir is hitting .358 with 11 homers and 52 RBIs.

The 28-year-old infielder joined the Cubs in Houston, where they opened a three-game series on Friday. Hoffpauir got his first career hit against the Astros on May 21.
