AVON, Ohio — The Lake Erie Crushers scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to hand the Normal CornBelters a 3-2 loss and a sweep of their Frontier League series on Sunday at Sprenger Health Care Stadium.
The Belters dropped four of six on their road trip and are now 31-35 on the season.
Normal plated the game's first run in the top of the second inning when Diego Cedeno singled home Jesus Solarzano for a 1-0 lead. Lake Erie responded with a solo home run from Josh McAdams to tie the game at 1-all.
The Belters regained the lead in the top of the sixth when Ty Morris drove Cedeno home with a sacrifice fly to center. Again, the Crushers returned fire when Connor Oliver stroked a two-out, two-run double off the wall which proved to be the game-winner.
Edgar De La Rosa (2-4) took the loss for Normal while Payton Lobdell (5-6) picked up the win. Despite outhitting the Crushers by a 9-5 margin, the Belters stranded eight base runners while the Crushers left just four.
Normal returns home for a six-game homestand beginning on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. with the first of a three-game set against the Evansville Otters.
