FLORENCE, Ky. — Despite three home runs and 14 hits, the Normal CornBelters dropped an 8-7 decision to the Florence Freedom in the rubber game of their three-game Frontier League series on Sunday at UC Health Stadium.

Catcher Brian Hakes homered for the second consecutive game while driving in three runs to lead the Belters. Aaron Dudley and Nolan Meadows also homered for Normal (25-29), which stranded eight base runners.

Belters starting pitcher Charlie Gillies (4-5) gave up six runs on 10 hits over 5⅔ innings to take the loss. Florence starter Eric Gleese scattered nine hits over seven innings to even his record at 1-1.

The road trip continues for the CornBelters, who head north to Traverse City for a three-game set against the Beach Bums beginning on Tuesday before returning home on Friday for three games against Windy City.
